Jordan Scott, daughter of Ridley Scott, makes her debut with this sensuous drama set in a girl's school in the mid-1930s. Adapted from Sheila Kohler's eponymous novel, and transposed from South Africa to Ireland, it examines the cloistered and claustrophobic atmosphere of a tightly-knit group of girls who are part of the school's swimming team. Their close bonds with one another and their coach, the glamorous Miss G, are brutally torn asunder with the arrival of a mysterious and beautiful Spanish student. Underlying this utterly fascinating drama is a powerful current of lesbian obsession. Strong performances from the cast, in particular Eva Green as Miss G, make this an unmissable event.
